It was a good start for the Jets, and more so for rookie QB Mark Sanchez. The Jets first pick was 3-for-4 in one series, hitting a big pass and ending the night for 88 yards in the Jets 23-20 setback to the St.Louis Rams at Giants Stadium. Per usual with a preseason game, most of the crowd buzzed over Sanchez, but then quickly took off at half, with the Jets leading 10-9.

The Sanchez drive in the second quarter started at the 7, and on his first snap he threw a 48-yard pass ot David Clowney. It was a perfectly thrown ball in coverage that Clowney pulled in. Two plays later Sanchez hit tight end Dustin Keller for 14 yards, and then three plays later on third-and-10 Sanchez hit Keller again, who made a great move breaking a tackle for 26 yards to the Rams two. Thomas Jones went in for the score two plays later.

Starting QB Kellen Clemens also looked good in limited play, going 4-for-4 for 24 yards. He and Sanchez will likely have a pretty good back and forth to see who the opening day starter will be come September 13th. Erik Ainge saw most of the game, playing the entire second half, going 10-for-17 for 148 yards with a touchdown.

The highlight of the game for St.Louis was Samkon Gado, who raced 77 yards for a third quarter touchdown to give St.Louis a 16-10 lead.
